VALOKUVASARJA PERHEVÄKIVALLASTA
Hän – teos kertoo perheväkivallasta. Teoksessa on 16 valokuvaa ja 16 sitaattia. Valokuvissa ihmiset ovat eri tavoin peittäneet kasvonsa. Sitaattitekstien muodostama tarina on väkivaltaa kokeneen kertomaa, todellisissa tilanteissa esitettyjä lauseita ja uhkailuja.
Perheväkivalta koskettaa huomattavaa osaa ihmisiä, myös Suomessa. Ongelmaan liittyy voimakkaasti häpeä ja vaikeneminen. Käsittelen teoksessa visuaalisesti pelon kasvottomuutta. Pelkäävät ihmiset eivät yleensä esiinny tunnistettavina. Teksti tuo esille pelon tunnelman, joka leijuu arjen yllä. Vaiettu pelko tulee näkyväksi kuvataiteen keinoin. Teos on Yhteikuntatrilogia – kokonaisuuden ensimmäinen osa.
A PHOTOGRAPHIC SERIES ON DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
He/She is a photographic series about domestic violence. The work consists of 16 photos and 16 quotations. The people in the photos have covered their faces in different ways. The quotations are all authentic experiences of domestic violence, told by the victim, of words and threats made in real situations.
Domestic violence touches a considerable number of people, also in Finland. It is always accompanied by a sense of shame and silence. The work is a visual investigation of the facelessness of fear. People who are afraid do not usually allow their faces to be seen. The quotations reproduce the aura of fear that dominates their everyday life. Fear silenced becomes visible in art. The series is the first part in my Society Thirology.
The Finnish language only has one personal pronoun for both genders. I wanted to preserve this anonymity also in the translations, hence the somewhat clumsy constructions of s/he and him/her used in the English texts.
The series has shown in Fear –group exhibitions in Jetty Baracks Gallery in Helsinki and in Poriginal Gallery in Pori 2005 and in the Art Museum in Varkaus 2007.
